i agree it’s tactically sound to reframe harry potter as a Loser Brand for Losers, since all the transphobia clearly isn’t slowing its fanbase down. they don’t feel guilt, the consumerism patches over it, so instead… make the consumption painful, shameful. treat it like Ghostbusters: a franchise doddering into the senior home, while its fans slobber for a new movie to turn them young again

like relentlessly. always talk about HP in the context of manchildren refusing to let go of their fifth grade level reading. talk about it like it’s got the literary complexity of a crossword puzzle. treat them like they’re eating kid cuisine every meal of the day. baby like their baby book? gonna watch the spooky wizard show? that’s nice sweetie, but the bills and the kids and the rest of the world are waiting for you, whenever you feel like changing out of your pajamas

Imagine being THIS bitter.

Fuck J.K rowling and fuck transfobia, but i will not pretend that i dislike a magical and creative world that became my safe place for ages before knowing all this stuff.

I do not support JK Rowling in ANY aspects, but maybe they fix all this problems in the tv show, maybe they dont. But the truest childish behavior is shaming readers that like the story and feel confortable, estimulated with creativity, and embraced with magic.

Harry Potter had a HUGE impact in my life, and i do have the conscience that the autor sucks, but nothing in life is black and white, nothing in life is that simple.

Lets not forget that the developers of hogwarts legacy (for example) made the universe with more representativity and had a trans character and thats HUGE.

The autor sucks, but the narrative is magical and successful and maybe the producers of the show will fix all the problems.

I hope they do, liking harry potter doesn’t make people good or bad, what we do and believe in our personal life is what matters.

the Bible is a historical document, just not in the way 95% of people think it is when historians say that. people not understanding this concept is why you can’t adequately discuss anything concerning said source with them because they kneejerk into “IT’S ALL FAIRYTALES AND LIES!!!” or “everything happened exactly like that and there’s no debate”. in both cases a regrettable lack of nuance, but worse so in the former case because often those people pretend to be in the camp of “rational science”. something something please develop some historical literacy before you engage in discussions pertaining to (ancient) history.

According to Genesis 38 while walking back home with his goats Judah mistook his daughter in law for a temple prostitute and gave her an IOU because he didn’t have any cash on hand. This means nothing to either of the extremist camps but it tells a student of archeology that there were temple prostitutes in the SWANA region thousands of years ago and that they took IOUs from shepherds.

if you guys did this much in depth film analysis about actual movies maybe the collective media literacy around here would be better

If you tell the average person “Yeah, back in the 80s the CIA was funneling cocaine into the US and helping spread crack into Black neighborhoods in order to raise money for fascist militias in South America, and then a journalist broke the story & he ‘committed suicide’ by shooting himself twice in the back of the head,” they’re gonna look at you like you’re rambling about chemtrails and space aliens, but that’s just like…a thing that happened. They made a movie & everything.

Cuba is genuinely such an inspiring and beautiful country. It’s not just that its people passed a referendum to legalize gay marriage and adoption, but that it came after a year of consultation and modifications by Cuban citizens and activists which made it go way beyond just gay marriage to being one of the most progressive family laws in the world, and was itself enabled by Cuba’s 2019 constitutional referendum which was also voted on by its citizens. Cuba is in lockstep with its people and that is why its revolution persists even after 60+ years of sanctions, invasions, and destabilizations by the US empire.
